LaBreeska Rogers Hemphill (1940-December 9, 2015)
LaBreeska Hemphill was born in 1940 in Flat Creek, Alabama. She was the daughter of Walter Erskine Rogers and Gussie Mae Goodman Rogers and the niece of Howard, Rusty, Sam, and Bobby Goodman and three other aunts who sang with the Goodman Family in their early years. LaBreeska herself sang with her mother, aunts, and uncles starting at the age of nine.
LaBreeska married Joel Hemphill in 1957. They soon began traveling and singing as evangelists. The couple signed with Canaan Records in 1966 to record as a duo. Soon after signing the recording deal, they launched a group called The Hemphills with Tim and Dixie McKeithan. Their kids Joel Jr. (Joey), Trent, and Candy joined them on stage.
After the Hemphills disbanded in 1990, LaBreeska begin performing again as a duo. They were frequently seen on the Gaither Homecoming videos from the mid-1990s until LaBreeska passed away in 2015. In addition to singing, LaBreeska was the author of four inspirational books.
